Links to Other Sites
- BAM! Body and Mind
- This site from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention is targeted for kids 9 to 13 years old.
- Ducks Unlimited Greenwings Games
- The subject of these games is wetland wildlife. Some require reading, but there is something for all reading levels.
- FEMA for Kids
- Learn about natural disasters, how to protect yourself, and how the Federal Emergency Management Agency helps those affected.
- Froguts.com
- This excellent site of a virtual frog dissection shows what the Internet could be for education. It is meant for secondary students, but it is so good that I had to call it to your attention. The first section on external frog anatomy could be used with primary students. But the rest of the information is a very real look at a dissection. The only thing missing is the smell of the formaldehyde. It should be previewed before using it with elementary students.
- Human Body
- Basic information on the human body is found at this BBC Online site. Flash, standard, and text-only versions are available. I suggest using the flash version if your browser supports it.
- I Can Do That
- Learn all about cells at this site.
- Infection Detection Protection
- Learn all about microbes at this American Museum of Natural History site.
- KidsCom: Animals of the World
- Find out how much you know about animals with these games. This is a commercial site, but these games can be played without registering. The answers must be typed out. (Suggestion: If you think the students will have trouble with spelling, provide a word list.)
- Kid's Valley Webgarden
- Lots of useful information for a beginning gardener can be found here.
- Kratt's Creatures
- Learn about the animals of the world at this PBS Kids site.
- National Zoo
- This is the official website of the National Zoological Park in Washington, D.C.
- Nature: Alien Empire - Enter the Hive
- Flash Player is needed to view this PBS Online site which explains the life of a honeybee.
- OLogy
- This American Museum of Natural History site has sections on paleontology, astronomy, and genetics.
- Rockhounds
- This Franklin Institute-sponsored site provides information about rocks: how to identify them, how they were made, etc. A teacher resource is also available.
- Science4Kids
- This is a site of the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. It covers a wide variety of topics related to agriculture and the environment. There are also ideas for science fair projects.
- Smokey Bear
- This is the official Smokey Bear website. Flash Player is needed for some games.
- Space Place
- This site was created by NASA, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the International Technology Education Association, and others. Teacher resources are available.
- StarChild: A Learning Center for Young Astronomers
- This NASA site provides two levels of the information. A viewer of the easier version can choose to have the site read aloud. There is a print version of each page.
- The Great Plant Escape
- Learn all about plants at this University of Illinois Extension site.
- The Virtual Cave
- Virtually explore solution caves, lava caves, sea caves and erosional caves at this site created by a caver/photographer. Younger children will need reading help, but the photographs are spectacular.
- Virtual Solar System
- This is a National Geographic site. There is a non-3D version for both Macs and PCs. There is a 3D version for PC that requires the Viscape SVR plug-in which is a free download available at the site. The 3D version will probably work better for those with a fast connection.
- Volcano World Kids' Door
- This is the children's section of the University of North Dakota's Volcano World website.
- Web Weather for Kids
- Some clearly presented information on the weather as well as activities can be found here.
