Download Plugins

Many websites, especially the graphic intense sites for children, require extra plugins that are not part of the basic browser. These plugins are available for free download on the Web. I have provided links to the most common ones below. These programs are upgraded from time to time. Many sites that require the plugins have links for them on the site.

Many schools have special policies regarding downloads. Firewalls which are set up to provide security sometimes block downloads. Be sure to understand your school policies before you try downloading things yourself. If you are a novice at downloading, ask for help from someone with experience.

ActiveX and Java must be accepted for some sites to work properly. If you get error messages regarding these features, check your browser preferences to see if you are checked to accept them.

Adobe Downloads: You can download Adobe Reader, the Flash Player, and the Shockwave Player here.
RealOnePlayer: This plugin is needed for some audio and video files. There is a paid version if you would like more than the basic features. They try to hide the free version. Read the small print.
QuickTime Player: This plugin is needed to view some video files. There is a paid version if you would like more than the basic features.
